"Rescheduling appointments over the phone"

(as the patient),

I missed a very important appointment with the Respiratory and Sleep Unit.

On realising this, I tried many times to ring in and reschedule the appointment, only to receive constant messages about the reception being busy with patients. So I left my contact details and reference number and waited for a call back which never happens.

I have COPD and right now feel that I will be lucky to make it through the year. I have a lung exacerbation happening which is causing constant asthma attacks and need to talk to the specialist about the possibility of going onto the injection to help control the attacks. Without this, I am very afraid that I will soon have an asthma attack that I believe will kill me. Either that, or my lung infection will develop into pneumonia and I will have to spend time in ICU, or worse.

I believe something has to be done about reception not answering calls to reschedule appointments. Now I am left with, I feel, no option but to go back to my doctor and ask them to put in another referral. Which will take time to be dealt with before I can receive another appointment date and time.
