"Really impressed by the care"

About: Perth Children's Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

Really impressed by the care of both staff and volunteers.

My child had an allergic reaction to a nut. It compromises their breathing and thankfully, symptoms had started to improve upon arrival at Perth Children's Hospital Emergency Department. We were greeted by a friendly nurse to asses the situation.

Almost immediately in the waiting area, I was asked by a fabulous volunteer if I would like a cup of tea. As I hadn’t eaten in several hours, this little thing was so appreciated. The nurse proceeded to get my child colouring paper, books and jigsaws to play with. We saw them several times over the visit and they checked in to see if we needed anything. The staff were as caring and helpful, talking to my child and explaining what they were doing in an easy-going manner. The highlight was a visit from the singing Clown Doctors to our room.

What had been quite a frightening experience for my child, became a fun visit to share with their friends. My child even had a few more things to add to their doctors kit at home from the visit; like the heart monitor stickers that were used on them.

Overall the memory of that day was far more positive than I would have anticipated thanks to the staff and volunteers in the hospital.

Dear fornaxdd84,

Thank you for sharing your lovely comments about your child’s recent experience in the Perth Children’s Hospital Emergency Department. I know how stressful it can be when your child is unwell. I was pleased to read of your positive experience, and that the staff demonstrated compassion and excellence in caring for your child, which is in line with our CAHS values.

It was pleasing to hear how the volunteers assisted in making your stay a positive experience, as it is often those extra things that can make a difference.

It is also encouraging that the support provided by the clown doctors helped to change what is often an anxious time for your child into a fun experience.

I believe this demonstrates how collaboration (one of our core values) between clinical staff, volunteers and our non-government organisation partners has impacted on your overall experience at PCH.

Your feedback assures us our staff and volunteers are continuing to provide high-quality care and compassion that we expect at PCH and I will have pleasure in passing on your kind words as I know they will appreciate this feedback.

Kind regards,

Sue Peter

Nursing Co-Director (Medical)
