"Waiting time for check-in and re-booking"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / 1 East (Ophthalmology)

(as the patient),

The Sydney Eye Hospital has a very long waiting queue in my opinion, for check-in and re-booking. Patients have been told to have a number and wait, even though they already have appointment at scheduled time. The appointment letter stated that they will not be checking in for patient 10 minutes before their appointment time but I feel it takes at least half an hour before their ticket number is called.

Front desk staff has to answer query, telephone, check-in, re-booking so makes the processing time extremely in-efficient. I believe that because of this, big backlog is created. In my opinion, it would be wise to have someone dedicated to make re-booking, so that patients do not need to wait around to have their number called, as I believe the re-booking processing time is significantly less than check-in & queries.

There was no interpreter booked, even though the appointment letter stated Yes. Now I need to go back again, just for risk/benefit and consents collection.

Dear public,

Thank you for sharing your opinion around the Eye Clinic check-in and rebooking system. It is feedback like yours, which facilitated the clinic staff to investigate how we can improve the process and our patients' experience.

I am pleased to say we will be introducing a new system called Q-flow in the near future, which will certainly improve and alleviate the long queue and check-in times. I apologise there was no interpreter booked for your appointment and your feedback will be shared with the staff in the clinic.

Kind regards

Alan
