"Hip Replacement"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Elective & Emergency Orthopaedic Surgery & Bone Tissue Bank Royal Perth Hospital / Goderich Street Outpatients Clinic Royal Perth Hospital / Orthopaedic Surgical & Trauma & Spinal Care Ward 3H/5G

(as the patient),

Both of my hips were riddled with arthritis and grinding bone on bone. After years of pain and a sailor's limp, Surgeon Sam of RPH Orthopaedics did my right hip a few months ago. Since then, my life has turned around. I have not had a drink of alcohol in five months. I give Dr Sam a 10/10. I am ready now to have the left hip done also, as it is getting more painful each day. I pray and ask that Dr Sam and his team will operate on me again, as I trust him and his skill implicitly.

Thank you.

I promised you I was desperate and dinkum about changing from being the town drunk to a decent man again, and you have been a big part of me getting my hope back. Thanks mate.

Dear blackbirdgr69,

Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. I am so pleased to hear about your life-changing surgery performed by Dr Sam Young, one of our skilled orthopaedic surgeons who is much loved by patients and staff alike for his warmth and dedication to his patients.

I am not sure if you have a current referral for your other hip but if you do, I suggest you call the hospital on 9224 2244 and ask to speak with the Orthopaedic Clinic to see if you can again be allocated to Dr Young. Alternately you can contact our Consumer Engagement Unit on 9224 1637 or by email: RPBG.feedback@health.wa.gov.au and staff will assist you with your request. If you do not yet have a current specialist referral, your GP can submit a “named referral” indicating that you wish to be seen by Dr Young.

I have shared your feedback with Dr Young and our orthopaedic team who I am sure will be delighted to hear that you are doing so well and happy to assist you once again.

Best wishes,

Dr Lesley Bennett
