"6week obstetric check up"

About: Sale Hospital / Women's and Children's

(as the patient),

I went for my 6 weeks postpartum obstetric check-up under the impression it’s a fairly comprehensive check (mental health check, physical, Pap smear, contraception chat etc)

I was in there for less than 5 minutes. I was told when I brought up needing a blood test to recheck my iron levels, to go to my GP. When I asked about contraception it was the same response. The Dr took my blood pressure, looked at my wound (emergency c-sec) and told me to get some rest, in the same breath as stating I have no signs of low iron, even though I told them I was bone-tired.

I left the appointment feeling very brushed off, underwhelmed and frustrated that I have to make an appointment with my GP to have the care that I believe, should have been provided through my OB.

Dear rainxs77,

Thank you for sharing your story. I would like to say how sorry I am that we let you down. We endeavour at all times to provide the highest standard of care for our patients and it is disappointing and concerning that this was not your experience.

Your concerns were discussed at our recent Obstetric Clinical Group meeting and we have identified that we can improve by making sure we maintain an environment that enables us to listen properly to the patients.

CGH has spent significant time and effort on improving our communication, however, we acknowledge that we do not get it right every time. Your story helps us to reflect and identify improvements.

I would be keen to talk further with you about your experience and the improvements we are making and can be contacted on 5143 8944 or email sabapathi.subiramanian@cghs.com.au.

Once again, please accept our sincere apologies for your experience.

Kind regards

Sabapathi Subiramanian
