"Epworth Richmond Experience"

About: Epworth Richmond

(as a carer),

My spouse was recently diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer. They were referred to Doctor Daniel for a surgical opinion. We discovered that this doctor is a very empathetic, kind and patient-focused individual and a highly skilled surgeon in my opinion, with cutting edge medical ideas.

The recommendation was for an Ivor Lewis Esophagectomy. We were scared and vulnerable when we fronted up early morning for surgery. I felt the nurses at surgical admissions were so thoughtful and caring. They got my spouse ready and walked us to Theatre where I left my spouse to have, what would be a nearly 8-hour operation. I left in flight and got to my car and had lost my parking ticket. Everyone I met on that morning while I searched for it, getting lost in corridors and exiting wrong lifts were both kind and helpful. All kinds of staff; cleaners, orderlies, receptionists.

This experience continued with the aftercare my spouse received both in ICU and on 7 Gray. I believe they were cared for by compassionate and highly skilled staff. Starting with the excellent Theatre staff and anaesthetics team, Critical care Staff, nurses and allied health on 7Gray.

Doctor Dan's surgical skill and use of consulting teams including acute pain team, respiratory and cardiology, I believe ensured that my spouse was in the best hands every step of the way. Everyone, down to the cleaning and kitchen, was respectful and quiet and always seeming to keep the patient at the centre of his care in my opinion. I am thankful that the experience we had was so positive, considering the devastating cause and effect of our stay. I would like to applaud the Epworth Richmond for our patient experience on every level of their care.
