I had my first baby recently at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) in Perth. I was a catchment patient and decided to go to KEMH despite having private health insurance because of their reputation and the ability to have midwife lead care.
I feel I was lucky enough to get into the Midwifery Group Practice program in the main hospital and honestly, I cannot recommend this enough. The care I received was amazing, in my opinion. I saw the same midwife for all of my appointments, never had to wait for an appointment and got multiple parent education options.
I felt like my midwife really cared about my preferences and she went above and beyond to make sure I felt supported. I feel that this is really the best option for birthing a low-risk baby in Western Australia and think that MGPs should be rolled out extensively across all hospitals so that more women are able to access the care that I received.
I would like to thank KEMH and my midwife, Paula (and all of the midwives in the group) for such a great experience.
