I feel the need to strongly show my thanks and appreciation for the nursing staff at Box Hill Emergency.
As I have experienced highly traumatic treatment from nurses at another hospital, I have only presented at Box Hill in an emergency.
After an intentional overdose, my nurse, Bridie (unsure of spelling), was taking my vitals and wasn’t getting a good read on my heart rate. Bridie noticed my hands were shaking from anxiety, even before I noticed, and sat beside me on my bed. Bridie took my hand and placed both her hands around mine. She said she could see I was trembling and wanted to hold my hand to keep it steady, but also to comfort me and calm me down.
I almost burst into tears as this is exceptionally opposite to how I’ve been treated at the other hospital.
Bridie then reiterated that she was my nurse, it is her job to help and be there for me and that all I had to do was give her a wave if I ever needed her. I cannot describe how meaningful this encounter was and she will forever have a place in my heart.
Bridie at Box Hill, thank you. Thank you for keeping me safe and taking care of me. I won’t forget it.
