"My spouse's antenatal care"

About: Box Hill Hospital / Maternity Service

(as a parent/guardian),

My wife gave birth to twins recently.

We were high risk. This is what was promised - to be in contact with a hematologist and in contact with a high-risk OB. None of this was continued.

We had junior staff at our appointments and all they did was ask how my wife was going, check her blood pressure, ask how her multiple sclerosis (MS) was going and that's it.

She ended up with severe anaemic terror which was a 5, which was only picked up at around 30 weeks and got told that there was nothing they could do at that stage. She didn't get an appointment with anyone on how to fix this.

We got told that we got lost in the system for antenatal care, this was mentioned by an OB and midwife from Fetal Monitoring Antenatal Care.

We also did not receive both newborn declaration forms and I believe no one knew where they were or how to find the original copy.

Also we did not receive our obstetric discharge summary; we had to get them printed out. And on the people listed as present at the birth, we believe the midwife's name is incorrect as we spoke on the phone to a different midwife who said the staff member on the paperwork did not work for the hospital but they themselves were the actual midwife.

As I believe no one knows where the original form is, we are trying to reach other avenues to get something signed to state our twins' birth as we need this for certain Centrelink payments.

Centrelink stated that:

You can also give us proof of birth with a letter from the doctor or midwife who attended the birth. This includes home births. The letter must include all of the following the parents' details, your child’s name, date and place of birth and the doctor or midwife’s signature, qualifications and registration number.

Dear Best55t,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion. I would like to apologise it was not as positive as it could have been and you have been left trying to follow through on a number of items.

I understand you have spoken with one of our Patient Relations Advisors in the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience and they are following through on the issues and concerns you’ve raised. I’m sure they will get back to you as soon as this has been completed.

Notwithstanding your experience, I trust you are adapting to your expanded family and all the joys this brings.

Take care and best wishes

Kind regards

David
