"Hospital stay"

About: Busselton Health Campus

(as the patient),

I was admitted to have surgery recently. A total right hip replacement. Dr Gordon was the surgeon. I felt that I was treated very well before and after the surgery.

I was told by the doctor that I would be in the hospital for 5 days as I live alone. However, I was informed by a nurse that nobody stays 5 days and that the doctor should know that.

I came home after three days. Two days later (5 days post-surgery), I called for an ambulance as I did not feel very well. I saw Dr Dean and came home with a letter to give to my GP. I was happy with the advice offered and felt I was treated with respect at all times.

I would like a little more care taken when bedding is sent to the laundry as a little black purse containing all my cards and some money went through a very thorough wash which badly damaged the cards contained in the purse.

I didn't know the hospital did money laundering!! (joke)

Good morning hydraek97,

Many thanks for taking the time to write to us with valuable feedback. I’m pleased that you felt that you were well looked after during your time with us and it was a positive experience.

As a general guide we advise patients that they would only stay up to 3 days following joint replacement surgery. This is to minimise the risk of developing hospital acquired infections, thus resulting in a setback in the patient’s recovery.

In saying that we also review patients on a case by case basis and if the patient is assessed as to be unwell this occasionally changes the discharge plan.

I appreciate your feedback in relation to the bedding and we will work towards taking more care when changing the bed linen. (P.S I can assure that there is no money laundering of the kind you refer going on at the hospital:-))

On behalf of my staff and I, we wish you a speedy recovery and once again thank you for your positive and informative feedback.

Kindest regards

Gaynor Taylor

Clinical Nurse Manager
