I have been treated in this hospital on 2 occasions extremely well but I think the Covid-19 virus has spooked the staff in my opinion. I know exceptions to visiting have been made and I agree with that but I believe there needs to be a bit of lateral or flexible thinking as some of the wards are a long distance from the entrance.
If I arrive at 5 pm I am at the front of the queue for 6 pm. That is the time I have to arrive. I have a Disabled sticker and can get a Disabled spot at that time. It takes me 20 mins -30 mins to drive which makes it 40-60 mins total drive. All-round 3 hours including the visit.
I'm in Rehab for leg strengthening, overcoming balance issues, and dizziness. I cannot attend these sessions at present and both my spouse and I have been away on holidays within Australia for just over 2 weeks just prior to their admission. So exercising was not on my mind. I believe my spouse got sick the last 5 days of our holidays.
The nurse in charge organised a wheelchair for me but failed to recognise the fact that I needed the exercise but not the standing for long periods. An hour is too long to stand or sit and I am also the only visitor available. I suppose the ward may allow me to stay a bit later if I am let in after 6 pm. No mention of that so far.
I have only been to see my spouse twice since their admission, the first time was to Ambleside which is close to the Entrance and I had no problem walking to and from the ward. Chesterfield is a different matter though in my opinion, and I feel you are not assisting me and my Rehab by providing a wheelchair. I will come in after 6 pm when I think the line of visitors will be non-existent so I can walk straight in and hopefully, the nurse in charge will allow a few minutes extra. The physio has said I need to walk so I will take every opportunity.
The spouse has been in Knox in Chesterfield on previous occasions and received good care.
