"Healing of a long term foot ulcer"

About: Albany Health Campus / Podiatry

(as the patient),

I wish to thank the excellent staff (Tep and Julie) at the Albany Hospital Podiatry unit. I have had a long term foot ulcer on my left foot originally caused by a bone spur which broke the skin on the bottom of my foot. After a lot of experimenting with a solution, they came up with putting a plaster cast on my lower left leg to restrict the body fluid seeping from the ulcer. The fluid was inhibiting the healing process and once the plaster cast was applied it took only 3 weeks to heal. Thank you so much for your help.

Dear browserrt73,

Thank you for providing this feedback. I will ensure the podiatry team receive this wonderful response. They will be thrilled to hear you are doing so well. At Albany Health Campus, we are fortunate to have two very experienced podiatrists working for our service. Both Tep and Julie take great care and pride in their work.

The Total Casting Contact process you are referring to is used as a gold standard practice to offload diabetic foot ulcers. The team have historically had significant gains with this clinical practice, with some patients wounds healing at a fairly rapid rate.

Once again, thank you for your favourable comments; I am glad the team were able to assist with the healing of your chronic wound.

Regards,

Joanne Clark
