"Organising mother's groups"

About: Community Support Services (Bass Coast Health)

(as a friend),

I am concerned with, in my opinion, the lack of organising a mother’s group for new mother's during these already challenging and isolating times. I have a friend who I believe was told weeks ago they would try and organise zoom and nothing came of it. Now with restrictions lifting, still nothing has been planned that she has been informed of.

I feel these women are just being forgotten and, in my opinion, this rings alarm bells to me. I personally, with a toddler myself, found mother’s group sometimes to be the highlight of my week in those tough early days. I just want some action taken to support these mums, please?

Dear Support New Mums,

Thanks for reaching out about the mother's groups. It's my understanding that our staff have still been seeing our new mums face to face and also reaching out to mums individually via virtual mediums for ongoing support.

I also understood that we were facilitating virtual social connection with others where people have been interested. I agree with you that none of this has been perfect. As you know, we have been unable to do some of our usual activities because of the COVID issues, and this has meant we have been unable to convene face to face groups.

I am pleased to let you know that we are now on the way to recommencing the face to face groups. We are able to open up to 20 people from the 9th of June. As I understand it, groups have been booked for San Remo, Cowes, Bass Valley and Grantville. We are still confirming the Wonthaggi and Inverloch venue but I understand the arrangements for both these rooms are close.

I can promise you that we have not forgotten these women but I agree, it's been not a usual or ideal time and I am very sorry that the normal group arrangements were interrupted. We are restoring services as quickly as we can, with a strong lens on making sure it is safe and appropriate.

Kind regards,

Jan
