I came into the ED via ambulance for severe pain in my left side. After multiple drugs in the ambulance ride and finally getting pain relief just as we pulled into town, I felt the hospital staff then purposely allowed the pain medication to wear off. Once it had, I was left for 20 minutes in excruciating pain again, only to be given paracetamol. The paracetamol not working, I was then given something stronger after an hour, again not to have fully worked given, in my opinion, staff had allowed the pain to come back and not stayed on top of it.
Once in the ward, I was given enough to allow me to sleep. I was then moved into another ward, I believe to allow space for someone else. In this ward, I had the misfortune of having, in my opinion, a particularly rude nurse who I feel dismissed my pain entirely and insisted it was simply muscular pain and pushed to have me discharged. After what I felt was minimal investigation with unexplained results, I was then discharged, being told to come back if I'm in pain again.
After that level of pain, I don't feel confident in going back to the hospital if they aren't going to help me find out what's wrong or provide sufficient pain relief for hours after allowing the pain to return. I'm currently using my partner's nerve pain medication as needed as I don't feel as though I can bring this up with healthcare providers down here and taken seriously.
