"Hospital Patient Bell"

About: Augusta Hospital

(as a service user),

I recently visited Augusta Hospital and was shocked at how loud and disrupting it seemed the patient bell was. It appeared to dysfunction and I believe did not turn off for around 20 seconds every time a patient presses the bell. In my opinion, it was highly distressing and I believe many patients were becoming unsettled as well. This really concerned me as I believe most of the patients there are elderly.

Dear Cooti,

Thank you for sharing your experience about the volume of the call bell system at Augusta Hospital. The sound you are hearing is when a patient is requesting help from a nurse when they are in the bathroom, which is a continuous sound until the bell is answered and turned off. It is important that nurses are able to hear this call for help to ensure they can respond and assist the patient.

The volume of the call bell system is currently being reviewed for a reduction of the noise level, to ensure the environment is comfortable for everyone.

If you would like to speak with me directly about your experience you can contact me on 9758 3222.

Regards,

Colin Bristow | Clinical Nurse Manager Augusta Hospital
