"Hypnobirthing classes"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

Prior to the birth of my baby, I attended the positive hypnobirthing classes via Zoom. Having the opportunity to attend the classes via Zoom was a nice option as I didn’t have to travel to the hospital and I could be warm and comfortable in my own environment.

I felt the classes were very informative and gave some great techniques but unfortunately they didn’t all work for me. I also feel Kasey was a great source of knowledge but it did feel a little one sided, in my opinion.

Unfortunately, my birth was nothing like those shown in the videos, it was not calm and relaxed, it was loud and had a few speed bumps. I feel the hypnobirthing classes do not give an overall view of birthing, it’s a hard situation as you don’t want to show a traumatic birth as it could scare new mothers; but I feel I was not shown a realistic view of a birth.

I feel some new mothers may be disappointed in themselves if they don’t have a birth such as those shown on the videos. Overall, the classes were great but to improve them I feel they need to show a little more of the other side of birthing, not just the calm, relaxed, easy birth.

Dear requirementnp38,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with the antenatal classes.

It is a fine line that we walk with the content within antenatal classes, and balancing the amount of information, the type of information and what will be of greatest benefit in the time we have can be a juggle. The essence of the class is not just about the information of labour and birth but also to provide strategies to help with coping with those speed bumps that come along.

I appreciate your feedback and I will forward it on to Kasey so she can look to incorporate your ideas and comments into the structure of the classes. Please feel free to contact me on 0418 913 555 if you have any particular videos/clips that you feel may have helped you prepare for your birth, and may be of benefit to other women attending the classes.

I wish you well with your new baby, and thank you again for taking the time to provide feedback via Care Opinion.
