About: Biala City Community Health Centre Lives Lived Well - Woolloongabba Lives Lived Well - Logan House

(as a service user),

I had a desperate wish to stop my self-destructive behavior that was affecting my family so I reached out to drug and alcohol services. First I engaged with Sandy from Biala. She has been fantastic, so helpful and supportive.

Since then, most recently I have attended the Woolloongabba Day Program through Lives Lived Well, both in-person and virtually during COVID-19. I found the Day Program very helpful and informative and it gave me hope.

Unfortunately, even though I started to do much better I have struggled with my drinking since isolation began. Thankfully they have given me hope by helping me access residential treatment and I was admitted to Logan House. I can't emphasize enough how helpful my case worker Jess and the program have been for me.

Despite my mental illness (Asperger's), I have found the service easy to engage with and I have been very comfortable with Jess which is quite rare for me given that I haven't known her very long. I would encourage anyone else with mental illness to not let that stop them as I believe the service will support you.

Hello RecoveryGuy,

Thank you for your story on Care Opinion.

It is great to see how you have been supported by Lives Lived Well services and staff, in particular, Jess from the Woolloongabba Day Program. It is good that Lives Lived Well and Biala staff have been able to collaborate together to work with you and provide the support you needed.

A key part of our work at Lives Lived Well is to offer people a sense of hope. To hear your contact with Lives Lived Well staff, both face to face and virtually, has given you hope, as well as information to help you make changes, is really encouraging. It is particularly important that you felt supported in your mental illness and that this has not been a barrier to you getting the support you need with substance use.

I hope the work you are now doing in Logan House continues to enable you to grow in strength and confidence to manage your life in a new way with your family.

I wish you all the best in the journey ahead.

Warm regards

Gerard
