My family and I went to visit my grandparent in Harvey Hospital. They were in palliative care and the nurse who greeted us was, in my opinion, particularly rude.
We said good morning and their response was, what are we here for, in what I felt was a rude tone. In my opinion, they showed no sensitivity towards our situation, it seemed they talked to us as if we were mentally challenged. We understand that staff may be overworked and busy, but a friendly tone and greeting goes a long way.
Given the COVID situation, we understand rules are in place to keep us safe, however, it seemed the nurse explained them to us as if we had done something wrong. Annoyed and apathetic was their tone towards us in my opinion.
I should note that the other nurses were very kind and comforting. It is disappointing that I believe one ill-mannered nurse can taint the reputation of other friendly nurses. Hoping our situation will help staff members be more courteous and sensitive towards their approach to greeting family members.
