I attended the Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital with a relative the other day, to assist them on the day of their cataract surgery.
The waiting area in the Day Procedure Unit was overcrowded in my opinion, with inadequate physical distancing between people who were waiting to be operated on (as well as other supporters/carers).
Considering that those who attend the clinic are, I believe, mostly elderly patients, and therefore a more vulnerable group for COVID-19, I feel the Unit needs to implement the appropriate physical distancing measures.
I also did not see any cleaning/disinfecting of high touch surfaces or chairs in the waiting area (as was the practice at another hospital I went to recently). While the overall care of my relative was excellent, I believe the Unit needs to make these physical distancing changes as soon as possible.
