I’m writing this in response to being held at Eastern Health Psychiatric Facility.
After having an argument with my parent, they said they did not want to talk to me about the issue we were arguing about. I also said that I did not want to talk to them any further about it. We stopped speaking and my parent called police and cat team some hours later (after not talking for the evening). When they arrived I spoke to the police and to the cat team over the phone who I feel agreed there was no incident and left it at that.
The Cat team arrived again and my parent let them in and they walked in on me in the shower and I yelled at them and told them to get out.
When I got out of the shower and began dressing they said they just wanted to have another talk with me. I was very irritated at the intrusion since I was trying to have a shower.
I said I had already spoken to the police when my parent called and got the police to come over and they saw no incident and left. Then my parent called the police and the cat team came over but I was not home and so once again I believe was being intruded on by police and cat team and I had said this is excessive and felt like harassment.
I said to the police I had done nothing wrong and they agreed and they assured me that I had done nothing wrong and there was nothing to be concerned about and that all I needed to do was go down to the hospital and have a meeting with the staff there and assure people that I was of sound mind.
So I reluctantly agreed. But when I arrived I realised, in my opinion, I had been deceived into becoming an involuntary patient which was not at all what was explained to me.
The next day, I was hoping to have a meeting with staff and clear this up so that they could see that I have no symptoms of psychosis.
But although, in my opinion, I was clearly not suffering any signs of psychosis and believe I also got the psychiatrist to confirm that I was clearly not showing any signs of suicide or risk of harm to myself or others. They said my parent was insisting that I was psychotic and therefore needed to be held against my will at the psychiatric hospital based on my parent telling them to do so.
There is no incidents of violence or aggressive behaviour, I spoke with the treating team and requested to leave the facility but I understand they believe I am psychotic and delusional. I think the reason for this is that they are going by what my parent has told them which is simply not true. I don’t believe there is any conspiracy against me, I simply had a disagreement with my parent and felt they were not being honest with me and said that I did not want to speak to them and was moving out.
However, I believe I have been totally co-operative with the treatment team and agreed to take the medication that they suggested. I also spoke with my GP who I feel agreed with me and so did my treating therapist Dr. Joel.
I would just like to put in writing for the record that I am not under any delusional belief that there was some sort of financial conspiracy. I am not suicidal nor have I made any attempts to end my life. I am not taking any drugs and I do not drink alcohol. Blood and urine tests confirmed this.
I had previously made plans to go to travel for a job and I have included a border control pass that allowed me to travel there for a job interview that I have now missed. The border control pass was emailed to me and I tried to show them that I needed to get on with my life outside. However, it has so far been denied.
