"MGP4 Heros @ King Edward Memorial Hospital"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I wanted to acknowledge the wonderful midwifery care I received from the Midwifery Group Practice Team 4 (MGP4) @ KEMH.

My spouse and I selected the Group Practice stream when we were referred to KEMH early in our pregnancy. It was obvious from the beginning that their focus was on baby safety and best clinical practice, however, they still made our values and wishes heard and respected.

Their education classes provided a good basic knowledge of what to expect in labour and after birth. Both the classes and the one-on-one sessions allowed us to get to know the team and learn about our new baby and roles as new parents. Many thanks to Holly and Sarah for your support and knowledge during our sessions and the other MPG4 midwives for your time in the class.

The Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit also did a fantastic job when we discovered my baby was breech and we had an ECV to turn them. The midwives and Dr Will handled the procedure with confidence and care and we got a great result thanks to them. The midwives in the delivery suite were also wonderful throughout the almost four days I was there. Thanks specifically to the midwife who took over from a junior doctor to do a procedure when we were not feeling comfortable with how things were going (I'm sorry I have forgotten your name).

However, no words can describe the admiration I have for Liz who delivered our baby. Liz was present from the time my waters broke, which was more than two days into the start of my induced labour. I felt she completely understood what had been happening before she arrived and how this was affecting my spouse and I. She was compassionate, pragmatic and just knew what she was doing throughout the delivery. We felt safe in her hands and ended with an extremely positive birth that we were proud and excited to have. Our baby was brought into the world with respect and care and we will never forget it.

I must also mention Mel who came in at the end of the birth and fitted in seamlessly to the process to help out.

After the birth, every single midwife, physio and doctor on Ward 4 we saw provided such a high standard of medical care, support and education to us as we stumbled through our first days with our baby. A particular mention to Belinda who was incredibly patient ad kind helping me with feeding and settling in the very early hours of the morning when I was on my own. The knowledge of the midwives and the skill they have in sharing it with you, while still caring for you and your newborn baby is remarkable.

The Breast Feeding Centre was also invaluable to us during the early weeks - many thanks to Emiko for her support.

Dear hawkwc59,

I would like to extend my congratulations to you and your family on the birth of your child. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Women and Newborn Health Service (WNHS). I am pleased to hear that your experience with our service was a positive one.

It is great to hear that you had such wonderful support from our Midwifery Group Practice Team 4 (MGP4). We are incredibly proud of this team and the way they work with our patients to achieve positive outcomes during the pregnancy and birthing journey. WNHS would certainly like to expand the MGP service for our families in the future as our numbers grow so that more women in the community can access care from the same small group of midwives for the duration of their pregnancy, labour and birth and in the postnatal period.

I am pleased to read that you found the education program provided by Holly, Sarah and the other midwives so informative.

Being told that your baby is breech can be a stressful and anxious time. It is always pleasing to hear that our service is able to support our patients and achieve positive outcomes through challenging times, such as receiving this unexpected news.

I will ensure that your kind feedback is provided to all of the staff you have mentioned, including staff in the Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit, the Midwives, Physiotherapy staff, the Breast Feeding Centre staff, Dr Will, the staff on the Labour Ward, Mel and in particular to Liz, who delivered your baby.

Thank you once again for your feedback. Congratulations on the arrival of your new baby - I wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Kind Regards,

Jodi Graham
