(as a parent/guardian),

A few months ago my child was in PCH being treated for anorexia.

Basically they weren't in a good way and refused their lunch which then meant they needed a bolus. When they refused this, the Co-ordinator came and, I felt,  barged into the room and threatened to put my child on continuous for 3 days.

I believe this was extremely traumatising for my child and I am highly disappointed with the care they gave my child and the disrespect the Co-ordinator had, in my opinion, toward the kids (especially the eating disorder kids).

Thank you for providing feedback regarding your child’s experience at Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) on Ward 4A, we are very sorry to hear about their treatment whilst an inpatient.

We take all feedback about our services very seriously and comments received enable us to review practice and strive to improve our care and services. I am sorry that you feel your child was spoken to poorly during your last admission. The principles of our care, guided by best evidence, benchmarking and consumer input, is that a clear but firm message to patients with an Eating Disorder is the most helpful. In particular regarding feeding plans, to help avoid negotiation and to take the control of feeds away from the patient. We do not want our patients to be traumatised and I am sorry your child experienced this.

All nursing staff on ward 4A have experience and skills in managing and caring for patients with Eating Disorders and we make all attempts to support patients to provide them with the best possible care. Please be assured that this is a priority for us.

We continue to monitor our outcomes and gather information to assist us in guiding our care and service so that we are able to provide optimal care for our patients.
