"Recovery from addiction with Aspergers"

About: Lives Lived Well - Logan House

(as a service user),

My life has descended into self-medication with alcohol and marijuana to combat my mental health condition. I had a year in recovery from alcohol and marijuana use and unfortunately fell into relapse for about two years after the first attempt. I believe that my environmental triggers and the death of a couple of my close friends due to addiction have triggered my relapse.

I feel very fortunate to have found out about LLW services. I then proceeded to get involved with the service in the Day Program at Wooloongabba. Whilst there I came to the realisation that I needed more support.

I was referred to Logan House and have completed the 6 weeks treatment. While at Logan house I was able to regain my physical health and have been able to reset my focus on recovery and a healthy lifestyle.

I found the groups to be very informative and have learned about my triggers and have gained new coping skills.

I found the staff very supportive and my treatment facilitator to be very understanding and kind. Considering my mental condition, I was very supported by my treatment Facilitator Branka at Logan House and Jess at the Day program I firstly attended.

I feel due to the support I received I have a second chance in life and I am more confident that I will be able to continue on this path called recovery.

Once again I am very regretful to Branka and Jess for all the support they provided and the understanding they gave to me due to my Aspergers.

I would strongly recommend this program and would encourage people with mental health issues to not let that stopped them from receiving the support they need.

Hello Recovery Guy,

Thank you for all the detail you have put out there in your story. Your time and effort is very much appreciated. Loss and grief in our lives has a tendency to throw any of us off balance so your experience is not an isolated one. Instead, the relapse opens the opportunity to go deeper and find new ways to restore your balance. Your story is a testament to your willingness to do that.

It is great that you now have more confidence in your ability to continue on this path called recovery. I imagine that you also have a sense of hope that no matter what comes along you can keep persevering.

Thank you for your description of the interaction of your Aspergers condition and your AOD use. It is good to hear that at Lives Lived Well (LLW) you found the support you needed to manage your specific situation. Thank you for your recognition of Branka and Jess for the support and understanding they gave to you.

I want to acknowledge your recommendation of LLW services to others and for outlining parts of the service you received that helped you most.

I wish you all the best in this journey of recovery.

Warm regards,

Gerard

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. As I have said many people in addiction have had traumatic experiences that have led them down the dark pathways in life, but I am blessed in the regard that I have a wonderful family and a small circle of friends that have always supported me in my difficult moments.

Branka and Jess have also been incredibly important, and I have the upmost respect for them. I am looking forward to experiencing life from a new viewpoint through clean time and sobriety and although no one knows what the future will bring, I am determined to do my best.

Regards,

Recovery Guy
