"My experience with the ED and Surgical Ward"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Emergency Department Bunbury Hospital / Surgical Ward

(as the patient),

I was brought into emergency by ambulance and later transferred to the surgical ward. I would like to pass on my thanks to doctors, nurses and all staff for the excellent care I received. Everyone I saw was very competent, very helpful and very willing to do what they could to make my hospital stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible.

The only thing I was disappointed about was the standard of cleanliness in the ward. The bathroom had mould in it and the ward, in general, was just not up to the standard I would expect in a hospital.

Please pass my thanks on to the staff.

Dear pelicanpw64,

Thank you for sharing your feedback on the care your received in the Surgical Ward. We do have wonderful staff who provide high-quality care day in, day out. I will ensure your feedback is shared with them -I am sure it will make their day!

Regarding your concern about the bathroom, I have inspected the bathrooms on the surgical ward today with the hospital's support service manager. I can see that some of the bathroom areas require maintenance, where the grout is getting old and the cleaners are finding this hard to keep clean. We are addressing these issues urgently and I sincerely thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Yours sincerely,

Jeremy Higgins

Dear pelicanpw64,

I wanted to update you on the progress to changes made since you shared your care experience. Over the Christmas and New Year period, the hospital has undertaken maintenance to all the bathrooms in the surgical ward, to remove deteriorating silicone/grout and professionally clean the bathrooms.

I am also pleased to say that on the 5th August 2021, the Minister for Health announced a total of $60.8 million investment for the redevelopment of Bunbury Hospital to focus on priority clinical areas and ensure residents of the South-West have access to a contemporary facility. This investment will support the growing needs of the community.

Thank you again for sharing your care experience.

Yours sincerely,

Jeremy Higgins
