"Visitors made to stand outside to drink coffee etc"

About: St George Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

Arrived with my parent in an ambulance. Several hours later, I needed a sandwich/coffee. Went to come back in to sit with my parent while I ate it as there seems nowhere else to sit either. Was turned around by security and told I had to eat and drink outside, only patients are allowed food in the Hosp. It was very windy, cold aggravating my asthma. Not like I had a car to go and sit in it. In my opinion, this is very poor and would understand if I was just coming up to visit.

Dear 13lugarno,

Thank you for taking the time to let me know about your recent experience in our Emergency Department.

We are working hard to provide a safe environment for our patients, visitors and staff. Due to the challenges of maintaining hand hygiene and mask-wearing, we discourage visitors in the ED from bringing food in to consume.

There is limited seating available at the main entrance to the hospital and additional limited seating available in the Atrium. I would like to apologise that you were not directed to this seating. I will make sure that your feedback is provided to ED staff and security staff to ensure visitors are advised of this alternative seating if it is required.

Yours sincerely,

Paul Darcy
