"Receiving treatment for burns"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Burns Department & Ward 4B Narrogin Health Service / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Recently I badly burnt my arm while cooking in the kitchen. I headed straight to my local emergency department as I knew that my arm was badly burnt. Within an hour of arriving, the doctor and nurses treating me in my local hospital (country WA) had contacted the burns unit at Fiona Stanley Hospital to consult about how to best treat my arm. Several hours later I was contacted by Fiona Stanley Hospital directly and was asked to come see them in their Burns Clinic as they could see my wounds were bad and would require more detailed treatment.

Arriving at the Burns Clinic several days later (after still receiving treatment locally), the staff assessed my arm and knew that I would require several skin grafts and a treatment plan was made and surgery was booked.

Everything was handled efficiently and with nothing but care. The staff at the clinic from the nurses, doctors and OTs were amazing as were the nurses and doctors during Pre-Op. However, my biggest thanks goes to the amazing staff on of the Burns Wards. The doctors and OT's were great, professional and friendly. The food and cleaning services were excellent, but the stand out stars are the nurses. The nurses of the Burns Unit are amazing. They are professional while showing care. They were so knowledgeable when I asked question after question. They made what could have been a painful and stressful hospital visit, comfortable. They made sure I had everything I needed. They treated me with respect and even during long shifts, I was never made to feel like a chore or burden whenever I rang the call bell. Thank you.

Thank you to all the people involved in my treatment, currently and ongoing. Thank you for making a painful experience bearable. Thank you for easing my worries and answering all of my silly questions. You do an amazing job.
