"Patient confidentiality"

About: PathWest King Edward Memorial Hospital Collection Centre

(as a service user),

I have received my blood test results and those of a stranger. I now know this person’s full name, address, DOB, hospital number, GP and blood results.

When I rang to inform PathWest, I received an apology and was asked to shred the documents that were not relating to me.

I believe this matter should be taken higher as it is a complete breach of patient confidentiality and privacy. I would be mortified if my details had been sent to someone else. I also believe that in the spirit of full disclosure and accountability, the other person should be contacted and informed of PathWest’s error.

Dear yankeejj88,

Thank you for providing us with this feedback. PathWest takes patient confidentiality extremely seriously and I am very concerned about this incident. In order for us to fully investigate this matter, and find out where our processes fell down, could you please contact me at your earliest convenience?

Kind regards,

Tracy Dixon
