The midwives, doctors, nurses and neonatal team were outstanding during our recent stay at Armadale Hospital where I gave birth to our first child. Although we were itching to get out of hospital and return home, the care, support and advice we received at Armadale was second to none and we couldn't fault it.
Our baby had a dusky episode where they choked on mucus and stopped breathing. They were rushed to the neonatal unit where they stayed for a couple of nights. This was beyond scary for us as new parents but the staff were incredibly supportive. As my baby was three weeks early, feeding and their weight were also an issue but after four days and a visit the following day by the midwife at home, our baby was discharged.
The child health nurse visited the following week and provided plenty of information and also offered to book us in for a weekly appointment instead of fortnightly, as we are still concerned about our baby's weight. We went through the public system at Armadale Hospital and we couldn't fault it. COVID-19 did put a stop to some things like face-to-face appointments at the beginning of my pregnancy and also face-to-face birth classes but that could not be helped. The classes via Zoom were informative and any questions or concerns we had were answered. Jodie who did the classes was amazing and we loved how she would get everyone involved, especially the soon-to-be Dads.
