"Overall treatment"

About: Box Hill Hospital / General surgery

(as a parent/guardian),

I'm really upset. My adult child was in 7.2. They came home and had a shower as I believe they didn't have one whilst in the hospital for 3 days. I believe my child had access to a basin and paper towels only. They told me they were left without a bottle for urine, and the nurses didn't respond when buzzed for.

I believe my child woke and realised the drip had fallen out and they were covered in blood. It seems the nurses failed to respond to the buzzer. My child said they stood in the hall, bleeding until someone saw them and came to their aid.

The noise levels from the staff at night was, in my opinion, unacceptable and unnecessary as they walked around talking and laughing all night. This didn't happen in the days, I believe because a matron took interest and did rounds.

My child also discharged themselves without being given needed medication or a prescription for medication.

Dear chassishz43,

Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know of your child's experience when in ward 7.2 at Eastern Health's Box Hill Hospital. I'm sorry their experience was not a positive one and that they discharged themselves without medications. No-one wants a poor experience and as a parent, you're right in bringing your child's experience to our attention.

In order for us to follow up your child's particular circumstances, I would like to invite your child to contact one of our Patient Relations Advisors in the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience either by calling 1800 EASTERN or by emailing feedback@easternhealth.org.au.

If your child chooses to call please be aware that it is possible that the Patient Relations Advisors may be on another call at the time your child rings and if so your child will be invited to leave a message so their call can be returned.

I trust your child is recovering from the condition that took them to hospital and I hope we hear from them soon.

Kind regards

David
