"Wait times"

About: PathWest Murdoch Collection Centre

(as a service user),

I have to get regular blood tests for my chemo sessions at FSH. Wait times at PathWest have become horrible in my opinion. Every week for the last 4 weeks I have been waiting 1.5 hours. It is really difficult to sit in the waiting room when you are nauseous and in pain due to your cancer.

The results never reach the doctor for the consultation on time. So I have to wait a month for my next appointment for any change in my chemotherapy doses.

I feel these wait times are not acceptable service level for any organisation. 

Please take necessary action and save lives.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your experience when attending our PathWest Fiona Stanley Collection centre. I am sorry that you had to wait for such an extended period of time and that your experience was not a positive one.

We are in the process of implementing a new Laboratory information system, which is unfortunately adversely impacting our wait times for our customers, as the new processes become familiar this should improve. We are also reviewing the staffing levels at all of our collection centres including the Fiona Stanley collection centre, and we are currently actively recruiting staff to supplement our collection centre workforce. We are also trialling an electronic queuing system to assist us to manage the wait times.

We consistently seek feedback from both our staff and customers in an effort to improve our collection service and we appreciate you taking the time to contact us through the Care Opinion site.

I can assure you that PathWest takes the well being of our patients very seriously and we are committed to continuously improving our service.

In response to your feedback we have implemented changes to our service at Fiona Stanley. We have onboarded and continue to employ additional staff. We will also be trialling a dedicated collection room for our oncology patients within our collection centre. We hope that these measures improve the current waiting times.
