I was an inpatient at PECC (Prince of Wales Psych Ward) at the end of last year for several days. During this time, in my opinion, the only thing that seemed to be in abundance was the lack of care.
I barely engaged any medical personnel and there seemed to be a wanton disregard for my wellbeing, which brings me to the major point of this complaint is that my patient discharge summary doesn't reflect the truth. It's stated here in no uncertain terms that "we do not support an application for disability pension". The only problem with that is, I'd never engaged with anyone in the ward about my desire to apply for disability, in fact, I believe it could be said that overall, I never engaged them about much of anything at all. I don't feel it's any of their business to put that on there either.
The registrar, in my opinion, seemed to take my situation more as a funny joke than a serious mental health and personal issue. I feel I left the Psych Ward worse off than better.
This matter about opposing disability, in my opinion, is suspicious and rude, to say the least. It also mentions here that I stayed in a different ward a few years ago, which is inaccurate (I was in PECC then too). It's also stated here that I engaged in modules which I also strongly contend with.
I would like my report to be updated to reflect the truth. Failing this, I have a firm view of engaging the health care complaints commission and also the Royal Commission into disabled care abuse.
My minor complaint is that I wasn't issued medicine when I believe I should have been. i.e. on my last day there, they refused to give me my morning medication, I believe because it was the afternoon (while I was being discharged), despite saying earlier that they would give it to me and ended up telling me to just take it at home. I also needed panadol for a bad headache I had there on one of my days and even asked for it multiple times and was told it was coming but it never actually did.
I believe if the Prince of Wales had an abundance of medicine, in my opinion, they probably wouldn't feel so stingy dispensing it. I should also strongly note, that my first night in the hospital was spent on a chair as there were no rooms available at PECC and this also happened to me a few years ago.
Thank you for reading my story.
