After spending a night in the Emergency Department, where treatment was timely and excellent, I was transferred to the Surgical Ward for ongoing IV antibiotic treatment.
My first impression was that I had moved into an old, cramped hospital ward that was very busy. I was in a small room with 3 other patients so privacy was minimal.
The staff were generally very good with a couple of minor exceptions. They appeared to be busy, as the wards were full. The level of service I received was pretty good considering this. I was seen in a timely fashion by the specialist doctors and the staff were always happy and friendly.
I did experience some difficulties with my IV antibiotic infusions and I felt some nurses were a little nonplussed about my concerns. However, my treatment progressed well and I was generally quite happy with it.
The meals were quite acceptable for hospital food and were delivered with a smile from the catering staff.
The ensuite facility was old and cramped but appeared reasonably clean. Staff were helpful and timely in getting me prepared for showering etc.
The doctors were friendly and helpful and kept me fully informed of my progress.
I was generally happy with the treatment I received, although the old facilities and cramped rooms were a little disappointing. I was glad my stay was only short, and would not be very happy if I had to spend a long time in that ward.
