"Unprofessional behaviour"

About: PathWest Joondalup Collection Centre

(as the patient),

I have leukemia and have to go in for regular blood tests.

I went in recently and when I first went in, no-one was there but I could hear voices. Then a patient came out and I thought that's ok, I don't mind waiting for patients.

A staff member came out and saw me but walked away. Another staff member came out and asked if I was just handing in my urine sample. I said no that I needed a blood test as well.

They said they would just go and clean the room so they could take me in. While I was waiting, another person came in who I think was an ex-staff member as they were dropping uniforms off.

A third staff member came out and said to me they were sorry but they had to take the person with the uniforms in first. I heard them in there for about 10 minutes talking and laughing.

In my opinion, it wasn't professional that they did that to me - to put me on hold so they can go in and have a laugh. I believe it's all right to have a catch-up but not on the time of patients and a bit of respect would go a long way.

I came in really early and had a family member take me in. Instead of taking 10-15 minutes like usual, it took 20-25 minutes and that took up my family member's time as well. I don't want to complain but I've done so many blood tests and am in and out of hospital all the time and it's just tiring. I feel it's not fair because it's not like patients want to be there. I already feel like I'm made to feel like scum when I do through these procedures.

When they did take me in, they made me bleed and I needed a pressure bandage on. I've never had that - it wouldn't stop bleeding.

I have already been through the wringer and I don't' see any reason why any of this had to happen. My time is important too.

Dear muscakb67,

Thank you for providing this feedback on the service you received at our Joondalup collection centre. I do apologise that you felt that you were dealt with in a discourteous manner. PathWest always endeavours to provide good customer service to our customers, and we expect our staff to always be kind, courteous and professional. I am sorry that on this occasion that level of service was lacking.

I have spoken to all of the collection staff at this centre and provided a reminder of our expectations for our customers experience at all times.

I do hope this is a one-off bad experience and that any future encounters with us are much more satisfactory.

Please see my contact details below if you wish to discuss further.

Kind regards,

Elaine Toogood
