I have leukemia and have to go in for regular blood tests.
I went in recently and when I first went in, no-one was there but I could hear voices. Then a patient came out and I thought that's ok, I don't mind waiting for patients.
A staff member came out and saw me but walked away. Another staff member came out and asked if I was just handing in my urine sample. I said no that I needed a blood test as well.
They said they would just go and clean the room so they could take me in. While I was waiting, another person came in who I think was an ex-staff member as they were dropping uniforms off.
A third staff member came out and said to me they were sorry but they had to take the person with the uniforms in first. I heard them in there for about 10 minutes talking and laughing.
In my opinion, it wasn't professional that they did that to me - to put me on hold so they can go in and have a laugh. I believe it's all right to have a catch-up but not on the time of patients and a bit of respect would go a long way.
I came in really early and had a family member take me in. Instead of taking 10-15 minutes like usual, it took 20-25 minutes and that took up my family member's time as well. I don't want to complain but I've done so many blood tests and am in and out of hospital all the time and it's just tiring. I feel it's not fair because it's not like patients want to be there. I already feel like I'm made to feel like scum when I do through these procedures.
When they did take me in, they made me bleed and I needed a pressure bandage on. I've never had that - it wouldn't stop bleeding.
I have already been through the wringer and I don't' see any reason why any of this had to happen. My time is important too.
