"Waiting for surgery"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / 2 West & Hand Clinic

(as the patient),

I broke my arm recently. Doctors said they didn’t want to do my procedure at another hospital so they booked me down here at Sydney Hand Hospital earlier this week. They told me to be here before 7am. Got here at 6.30 am. It was now mid-afternoon and they just told me that my procedure won’t be going ahead as there were others that were a priority before me. They told me to come the next day, they said before that they will prioritise me when I come back the next morning. I’ve been here since mid-morning which is when they told me to turn up. I’ve been waiting all day and the surgeon just came and saw me and said I wouldn’t be seen again, other priorities over the top of me. I understand other people need to go first considering how bad they are, if there are people worst off than me then for sure. It is now mid-afternoon again and they said I won’t be seen, told me to come back the next day. I plan to go back the next day, they told me to come back at mid-morning. I just don’t want to sit around all day and then come the end of the day I believe they will tell me I won’t be seen again.

One clinician did say before I left, usually if you haven't been seen after 2 days in a row, it is highly unlikely that I won’t be seen the next day.

Dear mineraldd86,

I apologise that your experience at SSEH was not up to your expectations and that you have a delay for your surgery. Unfortunately, sometimes we are required to prioritise urgent cases at short notice. I greatly appreciate that you have made contact with the hospital. I would very much like to assist with this problem.

Please feel free to contact me via the following email address with your contact details.

Kind Regards

Alan Porritt
