I came into KEMH after my waters broke as I tested positive for GBS (Group B Strep) and thus required an antibiotic drip for the remainder of my labour.
I was taken care of by MGP 5 antenatally, during labour and delivery and postnatally. They've since helped me transition from feeding the baby a formula top-up after each breastfeeding session to breastfeeding exclusively with one expressed breast milk top-up per day.
I would like to say that my experience of being an MGP 5 patient was fantastic. I really enjoyed the continuity of care model. Particularly after a few things seemed to have gone wrong/were upsetting in the hospital (see story here), I felt very reassured and comforted being able to debrief with my primary midwife, Caitlin. Having someone to talk to post-birth who had helped me prior to the birth made me feel safe and listened to. I also found her assistance at getting my baby to breastfeed to be invaluable. I feel that she went above and beyond for me, also helping my partner and I track down my placenta which seemed to have gone missing after the birth though we’d requested to take it home. Caitlin is incredibly empathetic and non-judgmental in her approach. I’m very fortunate to have had her as my midwife.
I saw a few different MGP 5 midwives during my pregnancy and at my delivery, and they were all very caring, professional and kind to me. Besides Caitlin, I’d also like to commend midwives Delaney, Hayley and student midwife Andrew for their exceptional care while I was in labour.
