(as the patient),

The midwives and doctors at the maternity unit of Sutherland Hospital (NSW) did a fantastic job in caring for me and my newborn during labour and then afterwards.

My baby was unwell in the hours after birth and this was picked up quickly by a diligent midwife who was very thorough at her job. My baby was then treated in the special care nursery for several days before we were discharged. They made a full recovery due to the team identifying their illness quickly and providing treatment immediately.

The team also provided support to myself and my spouse so that we could help to care for my baby and I was able to stay in the hospital to breastfeed them, which was a relief to me and I believe assisted in their quick recovery.

The birthing unit and maternity ward staff at Sutherland were so caring and dedicated to their job, it was a pleasure to have our baby there and a relief to know we were in the best hands.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Sutherland Hospital and may I extend my congratulations on the birth of your baby.

It must have been very worrying to find your baby was unwell in the hours after birth, however, I was pleased to read that the midwife recognised this quickly and your baby was provided with the best possible care in the special care nursery until discharged.

We are fortunate to have highly skilled, dedicated professionals at Sutherland Hospital and I commend them for the support they provided to you, your spouse and your baby.
