After being transferred from Coffs Harbour to POW I can only describe my experience as one of awe and appreciation. The whole experience demonstrated dedicated commitment and professionalism of all of the staff I encountered.
All the systems worked seamlessly and smoothly with limited waiting times for all procedures.
I would like to single out for extra praise:
- in ICU care of my nurse Alison
- in CCU nurses Seiko and Carmina for whom nothing was too much, but always delivered with true professionalism
- Doctor Tom (overnight) in ICU for eventually enabling me to sleep
- My surgeon Dr Peter for his skill and kind words
- MO Miroslav for his communication skills in keeping me informed in great detail and clarity, pitched at just the right level and assurance. The waiting for news of what is happening is paramount for the patient's mental state during long hours of boredom and worrying. Such aspects were overcome by Miroslav's demeanour and ability for straight talking whilst always being reassuring.
It was an honour to experience the Australian health service at its best and in my opinion, let's hope more Government funding comes soon to support the dedicated staff.
"A great experience in CCU and ICU"
