"Standard of aged care at York Health Service"

About: York Health Service

(as a relative),

I would like to recognise all of the staff at York Health Service for their care of our beautiful mum. Mum after a life-changing fall was admitted to this facility a few years ago. I am one of 4 children and we had been looking after mum between us. Our dream was that mum never be placed in care, so it was very difficult for us to relinquish this. I am very grateful to Anne and the nurses for being patient with us at this time as I know we were like helicopters in advocacy of our mum and weren’t particularly easy to deal with. Thank you for your understanding.

The accident and emergency department in York gets very busy and I believe often staff are stretched.

Despite this, personal care remains at an extremely high standard in my opinion. I believe Nurses and PCA’S partner really well together in this.

When mum deteriorated we were moved into the palliative room. Chris and the staff allowed us to remain with and provide all care to mum in the final week of her life. To me, this showed such trust and respect and is the epitome of true palliative care. It was our pleasure to care for our mum once again until she died peacefully a few days ago. Thank You All so very much.

Dear mineralwt54,

Thank you for posting your story regarding your Mother's care at York Hospital. Our heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family. It was inspiring to read that the entire team worked so well together to provide the required care and comfort to your mother. Chris Johnston, Acting Health Service Manager York Health Service made it a point to raise with me, (prior to your posting) that your mother's passing was a moving experience for all involved. We are very proud of the staff who time again deliver quality, compassionate health care to our patients and work hard to meet the needs of families. I will have much pleasure in passing your feedback to the team.

I noted your comment, staff are being overstretched, so I am pleased to advise you that we have made some recent service improvements at York Hospital to assist emergency department staff manage periods of high demand.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your story.

Best wishes,

Trenton Greive

Operations Manager, Western Wheatbelt
