"Visit to Emergency department"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I called in at ED late at night with severe pain and nausea.

As I am a cancer patient, I call fairly regularly at the ER for severe pain.  I always receive prompt and empathetic care. The staff mostly do everything they can to help me, and make me comfortable. The duty doctors are really efficient and keep me informed and updated with whatever they are doing.

The ED staff, including said doctors all treated me really well on this most recent visit, and once the pain was under control I was told I would be admitted so that the pain could be controlled.

The only issue I had was that this only happened four hours later, which seemed a bit long to be waiting to be able to rest comfortably.

Dear Happy puppy,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us on Care Opinion.

I am sorry to read that you have been unwell and needed to come to the Hospital Emergency Department (ED) with severe pain and nausea.

I would also like to sincerely apologise for the delay in your admission to hospital. Unfortunately, there are times when patients experience a wait before we are able to admit them to hospital. We do try to minimise these occasions and look to move patients from the ED to the Wards as quickly as possible. However, delays can take place, which are usually dependent on the time of day and the number of patients we have in the hospital at the time.

Thank you very much for your kind words about our ED team. I am pleased that we managed your pain promptly and you felt so well cared for by our staff.

I hope you are feeling better and would like to thank you, again, for taking the time to share your story with us.

Kind Regards,

David Bowdidge
