"My experience while being admitted to the hospital"

About: Geraldton Hospital

(as the patient),

I came to the emergency department because I had a fall off my bed and after my heart was beating fast and I wanted to get checked out. I thought I was just going to stay overnight but instead they brought me up to the ward. While my stay in the ward I stayed for 10 days and during those 10 days they did a lot of tests and pokes. I felt like they were not listening to me and what I wanted. They accused me of faking some symptoms and lying and they claimed that all my symptoms was anxiety. If I had any worrying symptom and called the nurse they would take forever to answer they take up to 30 minutes to answer then they would turn the bell off then just leave me to deal with it myself.

Dear bluedd38,

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion. I am very sorry and concerned to read you felt our staff did not listen to you. Your experience does not meet our commitment to providing high-quality care and the concerns you have outlined are not reflective of our values, particularly that of communication and compassion. Communication is extremely important in building relationships that ensure patient-centred care and your feedback indicates we have some work to do in this area.

My name is Derek Fraser and I am the Operations Manager at Geraldton Hospital. To allow me to investigate your feedback further I would be very grateful if you would contact me. If you are happy to, please feel free to call me on 9956 2369 or via email at derek.fraser@health.wa.gov.au.

I was pleased to read that our kitchen team were able to accommodate your dietary requirements and I look forward to sharing your positive feedback with the team.

I hope to hear from you soon and thank you again for sharing your story so that we may continually improve the care and service we provide.

Kind regards,

Derek Fraser
