"Being refused a test"

About: Hillview Community Health Centre

(as a relative),

My grandchild was referred by their Doctor to have a COVID test. They live on their own and was far too sick to go the first day after their Drs. consultation.

My grandchild was given an antibiotic by their Dr. and a puffer to help them breathe. They had a heavy chest and very bad sore throat, cough, mucus and all the symptoms of COVID. My grandchild virtually dragged themselves to the Health Centre. They are a young adult and doesn't drive and Hillview was their closest testing centre, so the poor kid had to walk quite a way, along the highway to get there.

When my grandchild finally made it and went in, and keep in mind they were very, very sick and sent by the Dr. The staff member said that they were closing in 5 minutes and didn't have time to do it.

In my opinion, this is just so bad, and this will be taken further, to the Public Health Department. This has to be looked into, and I feel the person that refused the covid test has to be seriously reprimanded.

This response has been published on behalf of the Northern Sydney Local Health District:

Dear learningbe34,

Thank you for taking the time to write about you and your grandchild's experience at Hillview Community Health Centre COVID-19 clinic.

I acknowledge the reasons that prompted you to write and I am sorry for the distress you and your grandchild have experienced.

Northern Sydney Local Health District values feedback as part of ongoing quality improvement and is committed to improve patient, family and visitor experience.

Please be assured that the District aims to ensure that all members of the community who present to COVID-19 clinics are seen for testing. To ensure this, the District has implemented processes to avoid patients from being turned away. This includes keeping all COVID-19 clinics open until there is no one remaining to be tested each day.

We would welcome the opportunity to discuss your concerns in detail, please contact me on NSLHD-Mail@health.nsw.gov.au or on 9462 9942.

Thank you again for writing. Feedback from patients, families and visitors is valued, and will help us improve our services.

Yours sincerely

Elizabeth Wood
