"Recent surgery"

About: Kerang Hospital / Theatre

(as the patient),

I was scheduled for surgery recently. The nursing staff were wonderful in every respect.

I had to be anaesthetised - that was the first discomfort! The bung was put into my hand but, unfortunately, was not in properly. It was then removed and put into my arm. The surgery proceeded and I was put into recovery, given tea and a sandwich. That was lovely.

Then, blood was flowing steadily from my wound! I was returned to surgery for additional stitches - this time with just a local. I felt each of them. I felt annoyed that this was not done adequately in the first place. I am in a certain amount of discomfort due to the area of the surgical procedure and, no doubt will remain so for some time.

Overall, the experience was not pleasant!

Our staff pride themselves on providing excellent service and ensuring that patients are well cared for and have a positive healthcare experience; so your recognition of the wonderful staff is very much appreciated.

Dear lacertahc64,

I am sorry for the delayed response to your comments on Care Opinion. I have been on annual leave for the past 4 weeks, and therefore have not responded to your comments until today. Thank you for your feedback about your recent experience. I can understand your frustration that you had to go back for treatment of the unexpected haemorrhage, but glad that it was noticed by the nurses and treated promptly. I am sorry that you were still feeling discomfort for some time after your procedure and I do hope that this is subsiding now. Sometimes the stitches can take some time to dissolve and be absorbed into the body.

I wish you continued and speedy healing. Your case will certainly be reviewed to see if there needs to be any changes made to minimise this occurrence.

Kind regards

Margy Christian
