"The unexpected journey continues Fiona Stanley rehab"

It appears that through my extended treatment journey, that I am coming across a plethora of outstanding staff health care in Western Australia. Read my other stories here about my experience Fiona Stanley Hospital and my experience Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.  

Following a neurosurgical stay at another hospital, I was to transferred for ongoing care at Fiona Stanley State Rehabilitation, Acquired Brain Injury Unit. 

On arrival I felt a sense of calm 'n cleanliness, which was very welcomed following a long stay in an acute, very busy and noisy surgical unit.

I was welcomed and given a video to watch that advised me how this unit operated and the 'rules' associated with successful rehabilitation and transition to home and outpatient goal e.g. no PJs in day hours and attendance to allied health sessions. 

After many many weeks inside, the view of green outside my well setout suite/room brought a big smile to my face and that of my highly stressed next of kin. 

A few hours later, this is when Rebecca (RN) knocked on the door and introduced herself. From the get-go, she conducted herself calmly and professionally, all the while conducting very detailed patient and family visual observation to assess behaviours and needs, with a much uplifting sense of humour.

She continues to "check-in" not only with myself but with my partner and family. So much so that when I expressed worry for my partner, pre their visit to me the following day, my partner tells me she asked them into the family/patient lounge, made them a cup of tea and informally 'checked in" allowing my partner to voice their new-onset concerns. 

The  Rehab medical team where incredible. So real, honest, caring and easy to communicate with. Again, words cannot express my gratitude for the incredible Drs and people they are!

The allied health interwoven team members keep you busy that's for sure. Always motivating, uplifting and empathetic.

The catering/meals staff were delightful and it was lovely to get to know their names and personalities. It helped me feel human with more identity and less of a patient - not to mention the food was incredible!

After successful rehabilitation, I am now home, following home follow-up and treatment with some on-point Rehabilitation in the home clinicians. I have been discharged now and continue on my self-driven rehab and the next phases of treatment for my condition.

I remain so very very grateful to all involved in the care that I and my family and close friends received.
