Dear Be Alarmed,

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns regarding the Derby General Practice (GP) Clinic.

At Derby Health Service we are committed to providing high quality, person-centred care to everyone living in our community and acknowledge that we do this best when we are collaborating with our patients and their families and carers to identify and understand their health needs.

We recognise both the on-going demand and the benefits of having a larger and more diverse cohort of GPs working at our health service and I would like to assure you that this is a goal that we are actively working towards achieving. Recently, we were very pleased to have recruited a part-time female GP (who is enjoying well-deserved time off this week) to offer more variety and convenience to our patients. In this instance, we have unfortunately been unable to provide cover in her absence.

I would also like to assure you that if you are unable to book an appointment with the GP and you have a pressing health concern, please present to our friendly and skilled team in the Emergency Department who will be able to assist you.

I am keen to ensure that you receive the necessary healthcare from our team and so, if you feel comfortable, I would appreciate being able to speak with you. My name is Nick Mildenhall and I am the Operations Manager at Derby Hospital. You can contact me via email at: Derby.OperationsManager@health.wa.gov.au or by phone on (08) 9193 3674.

I would also like to take the opportunity to invite you to learn more about, and perhaps become involved in, the work of the Derby District Health Advisory Council (DHAC) and their involvement in community advocacy. Our Quality Coordinator, Layne O’Reilly, would be more than happy to speak to you about how members of the community, such as yourself, can become actively involved in improving health service delivery in Derby. She can be contacted via email at Layne.O’Reilly@health.wa.gov.au or on (08) 9193 3671.

Once again, thank you for sharing your concerns and I sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused to you on this occasion.

Kind Regards

Nick Mildenhall

Operations Manager
