Late last year we completed the Positive Birth program run by Kasey at Bunbury Hospital via Zoom. The course was amazing and we came away knowing what we did and didn't want for our birth and felt that we had a strong voice in our appointments.
One morning labour started so we calmly went in to hospital for a quick check, knowing things hadn't quite progressed enough and that we would be going home after our check. It was soon discovered by the doctor that baby was in fact breech and that I would have to have a caesarean to deliver. Although this was a shock and a surprise we were able to remain positive as we knew this was the best outcome. As baby was not in distress we were able to still go home for a couple of hours to prepare both physically and mentally.
As labour pains got more intense, we were able to use techniques from the positive birth program. The theatre staff were wonderful and let us put on our labour playlist that we had made. After a quick bit of oxygen our little baby was ready to have skin to skin contact and remained with me for the immediate hours following birth.
The next day posed some challenges and scares for me but the team of midwives, doctors and ward nurses were quick to assist.
The midwives were a wealth of knowledge and I don't believe we would have had a better experience any where else in Australia!
