"Addiction and starting recovery"

About: Lives Lived Well – Elouera Women’s Residential (Orange)

(as a service user),

I started addiction in my teenage years, smoking cigarettes and marijuana with my school mates. It led to an addiction with ice. I quit my job after two and a half years. Started hanging with the wrong crowd, was lying to my family and closest friend. I got my license and started to become the designated driver even though I was heavily under the influence, it was all for fun until my sibling committed suicide a few years ago. I was 3 years into heavy addiction and dependency on drugs, I started to isolate myself and developed severe depression and anxiety. I wanted to end my own life, trapped in this vicious cycle of addiction until I was admitted into treatment at Elouera women’s program a few months ago.

The Elouera women’s program saved my life. I felt the staff took my addiction and road to recovery extremely seriously and they met all my needs down to making sure I got all the inspirational quotes I needed. Their passion and caring nature inspired me from my first week that I am worthy of a sober, clean lifestyle and that no one should ever have to walk the path of recovery alone. I am so grateful for their support and for their time, they have given me a second chance at life. I would recommend the Elouera women’s program to anyone with 110% confidence that it will change your life for the better.

Dear scorecardxn83,

What an inspiration you are for yourself and others. It takes courage to put your thoughts and history in words - and you have done it beautifully. It also takes courage to realise you need support and I am so pleased that you found Eloura a rock in your recovery.

I am so very sorry to hear you lost your sibling- it is not uncommon to become depressed and isolated after such traumatic loss, but it sounds like you had compassionate support from staff which is so important in recovery.

Thank you for taking the time to post your experience on Care Opinion - it may just help someone else in the future!

Stay strong and well-done scorecardxn83!

Kind regards,

Lara
