One night at the end of last year, I was rushed to Bunbury Hospital ED after having a severe anaphylactic reaction to an antibiotic I was prescribed for a UTI. I was triaged immediately by the Triage Nurse when my Husband rushed into ED and said I was having trouble breathing. I was transferred to a resus bed.
On admission to the ED Unit, I was met by the lovely Nurse, Marie, who immediately realised I was in trouble and I was "crashing". There was also an ED Dr (who I don't know the name of) that assisted. I was terrified as I have never had an anaphylactic reaction before and I literally could not breathe.
Marie and the ED Doctor were just amazing. The constantly kept me informed of what was happening and put me so much at ease during a difficult and scary time. They showed compassion and professionalism to myself, but also to my husband and my teenage child who was obviously terrified about what was happening and the possible outcome. I was eventually transferred to ICU and was discharged in the afternoon a few days later.
I just want to say from both myself and my family how grateful we are to have received the level of professionalism and care at Bunbury Regional Hospital. Everyone from the Staff in ED to the Staff in ICU, the PCA's which included Simone, the lovely lady from the kitchen (lady with blonde curly hair) to the lovely caring Ward Clark staff who we dealt with. Also, the lady from Pharmacy who provided me with my discharge medications and instructed us how to use the EpiPen’s I was prescribed. To all of the Doctors in ICU that did the ward rounds and explained things to us. Everyone we came in contact with made us feel so cared for and respected during one of the most stressful situations my family and myself have faced in my life. You are just wonderful.
On behalf of my husband and child and myself, we want to acknowledge them all and to say such a big THANK YOU. We are just so appreciative of not just the work you do, but the professionalism and compassion you have shown.
Warm Regards.
