My child was diagnosed with life-threatening asthma a few weeks ago. They have had 6 emergency trips, 2 via ambulance from Donnybrook to Bunbury and 3 days in ICU.
My child recently had their second ambulance trip from Donnybrook to Bunbury and after 200mg hydrocortisone and 2 nebulizers, they decided my child was safe enough to transport to Bunbury.
When they arrived, they had mostly settled. We arrived not long after, we spoke with the doctor and who said they would be keeping my child overnight for observation. So we headed off to Perth to drop our other child off for school.
2 hours later we get a call from my child saying the hospital was kicking them out. I told my child to go upstairs to visit their sibling who was in another department.
Less than an hour later while upstairs, my child had another attack so they went back to emergency and, I understand, they refused to see my child and wouldn't even triage them.
My child was even told to wait outside, where, I believe they could have died alone without help. My child had 36 puffs of Ventolin and 8 of Atrovent trying to stay alive until relatives could get to them. Not once did any staff member help my child or check on them.
In my opinion, it was beyond disgusting to be 2 hours away and helpless knowing my child could potentially die right outside a major public hospital. I am beyond mad.
