"Giving birth at Osborne Park Hospital"

About: Osborne Park Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I recently gave birth as a public patient in the team midwifery programme at Osborne Park Hospital (OPH). We had a few complications with the pregnancy (our baby was an unstable lie and had a VSD), and the doctors in the lead up (especially Dr Jega) gave us huge support and lots of detail in explaining our options in managing these.

We had a great plan going in, which gave us confidence. When we were admitted for an ECV and induction, leading to labour and a non-elective c-section, the doctors (Lachie, Jess, Dr Jega, Arvind, Jo, Frances, Dr Farhat) were universally caring, kind and supportive, giving us lots of information and agency in our care and choices. They did everything they could to give us the birth we wanted and kept us and our baby safe when things didn't go as planned. I'm so grateful.

Alongside, the midwifery team (especially Gemma, Mary, Sian, Grace, Kay and Cheyanne in the birth suite, Sophie, Emily and Louise, though I know I'm forgetting others here) were a constant support and amazing in caring for both my physical and emotional needs. We don't have any family in WA and they made us feel secure and safe. I really feel I wouldn't have coped at all with our birth experience without these wonderful midwives helping me through. Special mention as well to, Uma, the medical student who stayed for the whole of my birth and was amazing!!

In the days after, we were given huge support from both groups in educating us, following up on care in the issues we faced, following up on emotional support, and in basic pain relief and care. I was made to feel that we could take recovery at our own pace, and supported in improving each day.

I want to make sure hospital management knows how grateful we are for the care we received, and how impressed we were with the integrity and effort of all the staff we encountered. Huge thanks to the team.

Dear mikehk86,

Congratulations on the birth of your new baby. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your experience with the team midwifery programme at Osborne Park Hospital (OPH).

Managing a pregnancy and bringing a baby into the world does not always proceed as planned and there can be challenges for mother, baby, their loved ones and the staff involved. I am pleased to hear that your unexpected caesarean section was managed efficiently and that you received all the support and guidance you needed after the birth of your baby.

I am so pleased to hear that you had a positive experience with both the medical and midwifery team involved in your care. I will ensure your appreciative comments are sent to the staff involved.

Your feedback reflects how engaged and receptive you were to the staff’s healthcare information and care and this would have contributed to an overall positive experience for everyone involved.

I wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Regards

Jodi Graham
