"Care and management in nursing home"

About: Kubirri Aged Care Centre

(as a relative),

The setting is beautiful and the rooms are lovely and new. In my opinion, that is where the niceness ends. I think this nursing home is horrible. While there are some staff who are beautiful and genuine in their care towards the residents and families, I feel the main day staff are rude, lack compassion and should not be in the positions they are in.

I believe the management know this and do nothing. Our experience was that we should never have taken our parent there. I believe my parent was left in faeces for hours and not changed, barely fed or given water. I think staff teased and commented rudely when changing my parent, swore around them regularly and believe that the staff were allowed to speak in the community (while in uniform) about my parent and their business and we, the family, were abused in public by one of the uniformed staff for speaking out.

I even found my parent with a dislocated finger and was told to go to the chemist for a splint as they were too busy. In my opinion, care is obviously not a requirement of this facility. I believe the management does not care what their staff are doing as numerous meetings and complaints about what was going on resulted in no changes.

My young children and I regularly saw other residents teased, left crying for help for up to an hour and spoken about terribly. People who know me understand the concern and care I had for my parent and I can honestly say that, in my opinion, this was the most beautiful looking but nasty nursing home I have ever experienced.

In my opinion, management need to wake up and read the Charter of Aged Care they have openly displayed on the wall and realise it is not just a pretty space filler picture. (My statement/review can be backed up through email trails between myself, management and the Salvation Army management).

I feel your response truly does not make sense because if you were providing high quality care that met the needs of your residents I would never have had the need to write such a revealing review of the standards of care in one of your facilities.

You also mention that you were in contact with me regularly about my feedback but fail to admit your lack of doing anything to rectify any of the issues. Your treatment of my parent, myself and my children was, I feel, nothing short of contempt for bringing to your attention constant failings by your staff to do their job properly and respectfully.

Funnily enough, now you want me to contact you to discuss further when most of my emails asking for your response and help were, I feel, ignored.

Shame on you all and I hope all involved have hung their heads in shame.
